The Big Bash League has reached its final destination at Docklands Stadium, where we will witness a Melbourne derby in the summit clash. After a two-month-long tournament, we have our two deserving finalists. Melbourne Stars will collide with Melbourne Renegades in the finals of BBL 2018-19. Both the teams will be facing each other for the third time in this tournament. Melbourne Stars emerged victorious in both the previous encounters against the Renegades by 7 wickets and 6 wickets respectively. Melbourne Renegades would be eyeing to avenge their both the defeats in the final game to take the trophy home.
Melbourne Stars thrashed the table toppers, Hobart Hurricanes in the first semi-final by 6 wickets to book their berth in the finals. Glenn Maxwell led his troop from the front in the crucial contest to take his side over the line. The Stars restricted Hobart Hurricanes to 153 runs in their quota of 20 overs, courtesy Daniel Worrall’s 4-wicket haul. In the second innings, their batsmen stepped up to the task and chased down the target comprehensively. Maxwell remained unbeaten at 43 along with Seb Gotch (33) to storm their way into the finals. Melbourne Stars would be hoping to defeat the Renegades for the third time this season when they face them in the finals on Sunday.
Melbourne Renegades had a decent campaign so far this season where they have been performing consistently. The Renegades came out on top against Sydney Sixers by three wickets in the second semi-final to seal their spot in the finals. Daniel Christian starred with the bat in a close contest to take his team over the line in final over. He scored a quickfire 31 off 14 balls in a must-win match to take the Renegades to their first-ever Big Bash Finals. Aaron Finch will be hoping for the same kind of performance from his team in the finals if they want to lift their first title. The stage is set for a high-voltage drama when two Melbourne sides will take on each other to be crowned as the ultimate champions!
