The grandest Cricket Carnival has just begun, and now we move into the double-header Sunday where Mumbai Indians will take on the Delhi Capitals. Mumbai Indians is set to kickstart their IPL campaign in front of their home crowd when they host the Delhi franchise at the Wankhede stadium. Rohit Sharma will lead the hosts while Shreyas Iyer will be the standing captain for the young guns, Delhi Capitals. With world class in their ranks, both the teams would be eyeing for a positive start at the beginning of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians had a forgettable IPL according to their standards where they finished fifth in the league table. The Blue Army was the first team in the history of Indian Premier League to win the title three times (2013, 2015, 2017). Having retained their star players for the upcoming season, Mumbai Indians ended up buying six players in the bidding war. Mumbai Indians along with Sunrisers Hyderabad have the most balanced side on paper. They have a great set of quality players with the right combination of Indian and overseas players. Rohit Sharma & Co have to show their calibre and perform as a unit if they want to make it into the playoffs this time around.
Delhi Capitals, earlier known as ‘Delhi Daredevils,’ have been in terrible form in the recent years. One of those teams, which has potential match-winners in their ranks but always failed to perform as a team. They possess impactful players like Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Radaba and Trent Boult in the mix which can help the visitors smell blood in the opening encounter at Mumbai. Delhi Capitals has the best Indian batting core, but their bowling department has to stand up in the times of adversity. With Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting at the helm, Delhi Capitals would be hoping to change their fortunes in the upcoming season.
