Over a period of 8 weeks, we witnessed scintillating and enchanting cricket in the grandest domestic league in the world. The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League has finally come to an end after Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by one run in the last ball thriller. The stage was set for an intriguing battle when two most successful IPL teams came face-to-face in quest of their fourth title. Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians from the front throughout the season and clinched yet another IPL trophy in a dramatic fashion. Chennai Super Kings too had a commendable campaign under the leadership of MS Dhoni, but their batting fragility led to their yet another demise in a must-win match. This season of the Indian Premier League was special in so many ways as we have been through a roller coaster ride in the world’s most competitive domestic tournament. From Andre Russell’s mayhem to Hardik Pandya’s heroics, from Rabada’s lethal bowling to Imran Tahir’s exuberant celebrations and from Warners’s carnage to KL Rahul’s elegance, this IPL has never failed to astonish us with their nerve-wracking display of cricket at the highest order.
First time in the IPL history, the tournament was played right before the ICC World Cup to provide the players with an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the world-class players. The charisma of the Indian Premier League has grown all the over the world since its inception in 2008 by the BCCI. This year was no different as we have witnessed some enthralling and entertaining encounters throughout the period of eight weeks in the IPL. Underdogs like Delhi Capitals impressed all the pundits and fans with their fearless cricket while giants like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders failed to deliver as promised. However, in the second half of the season, the race to playoffs turned out to be an exciting affair when all the four teams were fighting for a single spot.
However, Chennai Super Kings proved once again why they are the most consistent franchise in IPL history. The reigning champions had a sensational campaign making it into their 8th IPL final only to bow out to their arch-rivals in the decisive game. Mumbai Indians held their nerves under pressure to get over the line in the very last ball of the tournament. Keiron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah starred with the bat and ball respectively in the times of adversity to give the performance of their lifetimes. Rahul Chahar’s spell also turned out to be crucial in a low-scoring affair as the leggie bowled with discipline to restrict the Chennai batsman. Having played dominating cricket throughout this season, Mumbai Indians became the deserving winners of the IPL 2019 on the back of some clinical performances.
