After a thumping 8-wicket win in the first ODI, South Africa are set to host the Sri Lankan side for the second ODI at SuperSport Park. The Proteas must be relieved after getting their first victory against Sri Lanka in this home series. However, the visitors will be determined to bounce back in the second ODI at the Centurion. Both the teams will look to get their balance and combinations right in this ODI series ahead of the ICC World Cup.

South Africa has maintained an incredible home record in the last decade, and only a few teams have ended up winning a series there. However, Sri Lanka has given them a run for their money so far in this tour. After a humiliating defeat in the Test series, the hosts drew the first blood in the ODI series. Having won the toss, the Proteas elected to field first in the opening ODI. Their bowlers stepped up to the task and restricted the Sri Lankan batting lineup to 231/10. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis paced the chase perfectly for the hosts after an early breakthrough of Reeza Hendricks. The skipper remained unbeaten at 112 to take his side over the line.

Sri Lanka made an emphatic start to this South African tour when they wrapped up the test series is style after a dominant performance. However, in the 50-over format, the visitors have struggled to find their feet in the past few years. Their poor record remained intact when they were beaten in the first ODI by eight wickets. Sri Lanka would be hoping to get back to winning ways heading into the second ODI. Malinga needs to lead his team from the front in such times of adversity. With the ICC World Cup in sight, the visitors have many boxes to tick if they want to compete among the best in the world.
