After sealing the ODI series by in the first four matches, South Africa is set to host Sri Lanka for the fifth and final ODI at the Newlands Cricket Ground. The last ODI will be played tomorrow at Cape Town before the three-match T20I series begins from 16th March. Heading into the final game, South Africa will be looking for a series whitewash while the visitors need to play out of their skin for a consolation win. Both the teams will try to get their combination right in the last ODI ahead of the ICC World Cup.
South Africa has lately established itself as one of the dominant forces in limited-overs cricket. This ODI series have once again proved their authority in this format as the hosts have tormented Sri Lanka to seal the series in the first four games. The Proteas have a great pool of experienced players and emerging talents which gives a slight edge over their counterparts. South Africa will be determined to write off their ‘Chokers’ tag in the upcoming ICC World Cup. Having won the series, the hosts would be eyeing for a clean sweep heading into the final ODI.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has lost the plot in the limited-overs cricket as they are still struggling to find their feet in the international circuit. After their historical test series victory, the visitors were expected to give a tough fight against the Proteas, but that was indeed not the case, and they lost another ODI series. With the ICC World Cup in sight, the Lankan Lions need to tick a lot of boxes to tick if they don’t want to humiliate themselves on the biggest cricketing stage. Sri Lanka would be hoping to end this horrible tour on a winning note and gain some momentum for the T20I series.
