The most prestigious tournament in the cricketing world, the ICC World Cup is just around the corner, and the excitement and anticipation between the fans are more than ever. Opening warm-up game is set to be played tomorrow between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the County Ground, Bristol. Pakistan will be desperate to get back to winning ways after losing their last nine games while Afghanistan would be hoping to upset their Asian rivals in the first warm-up match.
In the past few months, Pakistan has been in terrible form in the limited-overs cricket. Having being whitewashed in two back-to-back ODI series, Pakistan would be eyeing to get back to winning ways in the upcoming two warm-up matches. Bowling, which once used to be their prime weapon, now looks in disarray without the leader of the pack. Sarfraz Ahmed & Co have to step-up if they want to perform well in the ICC World Cup 2019. It will be the final opportunity for the thinktanks to try all the different combinations to assemble the best starting lineup for the mega event.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan will be the dark horses in the impending World Cup which happens to be their second World Cup appearance in their cricketing history. The Asian outfit has this knack of upsetting their opponents and surprising the cricket fans with their flabbergasting performances. Gulbadin Naib has been appointed Afghanistan’s new ODI captain in place of Asghar Afghan ahead of the World Cup. Hazratullah Zazai, Md. Shehzad and Asghar Afghan will be crucial in the batting lineup while the skipper will lead the bowling attack along with Rashid Khan and Md. Nabi. Afghanistan can be a scary side which can make their way into the semis if they continue to impress us with their magnificent cricket.
